Teleconverter Camera Lens for Sony
The lens on a camera is one of the most important pieces of the mechanism, as it is collects the light that makes photography. The lenses on cameras like the Sony Alpha have many features, but those abilities increase exponentially with the addition of specialty lenses like the teleconverter. A teleconverter is one of the most basic pieces of equipment in many photographers’ toolkits since it multiplies the power of the lens without adding much bulk or expense.
How does a Sony-compatible teleconverter work? These optical assemblies are essentially precision-built magnifying lenses inserted between the lens assembly and the camera back. It "catches" the light that enters through the lens and magnifies it onto the image sensor or negative holder. This increases the focal length of the lens without massively increasing the size of the assembly. They are compatible with zoom functions on lenses, AF functions, and other systems.
Do teleconverters work with all photographic systems or only Sony?Only cameras with interchangeable lens mounts can use a lens system such as this. Digital single-lens reflex cameras such as the Sony Alpha are suitable platforms for them. The converter will not function by itself, so it can only be used between the camera back and the chosen lens. Both the back and the lens must be compatible with the assembly, which means that they must both be designed to work with Sony products. AF and AE functions should not be affected.
What are the advantages of a teleconverter?Converters were invented to provide versatility and improve focal range without the users having to carry around large telephoto lenses. They are smaller than a dedicated telephoto lens. These lenses are suitable for a telephoto zoom lens such as the 70-200mm.
These lenses generally double the focal length and range of a telephoto lens. Zoom functions will still work.
Can the Sony Alpha use multiple teleconverters at once? There is no upper limit to how many lenses and converters a Sony Alpha can accept, so long as light travels through the assembly to the image sensor and the entire system is supported properly. Although multiple lenses and filters can lead to blurriness, lens distortion, optical artifacts and extremely high aperture settings, anything that brings light to the sensor plate can make a photograph. AF and AE, as they are in-camera functions of the Sony Alpha, will still work.
