The Rolex Rootbeer

Rolex began producing the Ref 16753 in the 1980s. Before it launched, Rolex released a few different color variations of the GMT-Master. However, this model marked a stark departure from tradition, offering a two-tone design with hues of brown and cream.

This watch's dial is a deep brown. Raised hour markers clad in yellow gold line the perimeter of the face while gold hands and Rolex's signature Mercedes-style hour marking occupy the center. At the 3 o'clock position, you'll find the date window. Acrylic crystal covers the dial, and there is a magnifying Cyclops lens over the date window.

Like other GMT-Master watches, the Ref 16753 has a dedicated 24-hour hand for Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Surrounding the dial is a rotating bezel with hour markers. Rotating the bezel allows you to display a second zone, and the two-tone design incorporating dark brown and cream reflects day and night.

Construction

While the Ref 16753 is not a steel dive watch like the Rolex Submariner watch, it still offers water resistance. It remains protected to a depth of 100 meters.

The 40mm case of the Ref 16753 is predominantly stainless steel. However, yellow gold accents appear on the dial and crown. The watch also comes with a traditional two-tone Oyster bracelet. But instead of making all three links of stainless steel, Rolex uses gold on the middle link for additional aesthetic flair.
