Piper Aviation Parts and Accessories

Founded in 1927 by William Piper, Piper Aircraft was once considered one of the "Big Three" in the manufacture of planes and aviation parts. For a small plane thats lacking something essential or would benefit from a replacement, a variety of parts and accessories are available.

What are the standard instruments on a small plane?
  • Vertical speed indicator, which displays the feet per minute speed of the planes climb or descent
  • Airspeed indicator, which displays the wind knot speed
  • Heading indicator, which displays the directional information of the plane
  • Attitude indicator, also referred to as a gyroscope or artificial horizon, which displays the position of the plane relative to the horizon
  • Altimeter, which displays the planes relative vertical height above average or mean sea level
What is a canopy, wing, or engine cover?

Canopy, wing, and engine covers are used to protect the different aircraft parts of your Piper aircraft when it is not flying. Canopy covers work much like windshield covers of a car and offer protection for the planes windscreen while reducing interior heat. This helps preserve the aircrafts upholstery as well as the avionics and control panels in the cockpit. Wing covers attach under the wings while the plane is parked and protect the wings from the effects of rain, frost, and hail. Engine covers are often insulated to help with small engine preheating during harsh winter weather. These covers are usually designed to attach to canopy covers.

When should Piper aircraft windscreens or windows be replaced?

A windscreen is a critical flightworthy element on an aircraft and must be intact and stable for the demands of flight. Any cracks or gaps in the seal around the windscreen must be addressed and repaired or replaced before further flights.

Side windows with cracks may be determined repairable depending on the location, size, and depth of the crack. Window replacement may be required to pass the planes annual inspection.

What are the different kinds of aviation seatbelts?

Aviation seatbelts were standardized by the FAA as required equipment on small aircraft in 1978 for front seats and 1988 for back seats. Adding, upgrading, or replacing worn seatbelts is important for passenger and pilot safety. There are a variety of seatbelt types suitable for Piper aircraft, including:

  • Three-point system with a static shoulder belt, good for front and rear seats
  • Three-point system with an inertia reel, good for front and rear seats
