Run on Air With the Nike Air Max 360

Nike Air Max 360 Sneakers

Many cushioned running shoes claim to make you feel like you are running on air. That claim often breaks down over time as the cushioning gets compressed. The Nike Air Max series is the first to continuously uphold their promise with the Air Max 360.

Are there design options available for the Nike Air Max 360?

As with most successful lines of shoes, the Air Max 360 had a number of model lines take its name. In this case, the continued success of the line has more to do with the Air Max technology than the shoe design itself. This allowed the midsole to be adapted to many silhouette styles. Here are a few:

Air Max 360 BB Low is the low-top basketball shoe that uses the Air Max technology. It has been released with a number of different colorways, including some eye-catching neon options.

The Richard Jefferson Player edition was developed for Richard Jefferson in 2010. This is a high-top silhouette that uses a Velcro strap just under the collar for added ankle support.

The Griffey Max Collection celebrates the achievements of Ken Griffey, Jr. This was an entire line that had several editions, including The Kid, Diamond, and the Griffey Max. Within each of these were several colorways highlighting Griffey’s taste.

Kim Jones is a British designer who has collaborated with Nike on two separate occasions, the first being the Air Max 95. With this collaboration, Kim brought on a streamlined high-top silhouette with a Velcro strap under the collar for added ankle support for playing football.

The Vapormax 360 is the latest in the line that gives homage to these heritage running shoes. The Vapormax utilized a slightly different approach to the Air Max technology, giving the appearance you are actually walking on air.

What makes the Nike Air Max 360 different from other modern athletic sneakers?

Most lightweight sneakers use an EVA midsole. EVA is ethel vinyl acetate, a man-made foam material. This has been the standard for most 2000s-style shoes.

The problem with EVA is that as that it compresses over time and eventually no longer offers sufficient cushioning. The Air Max system was the first to use a system using pressurized gas in place of the EVA material.

The Air Max 360 was the full culmination of the design journey for these modern athletic sneakers. It uses the bladder for the entire midsole of the shoe, providing exceptional cushioning for the entire foot.

Is the technology behind the Nike Air Max 360 new?

The technology behind the Air Max 360 actually debuted in 1987 in the Air Max 1. The Air Max line took a completely different approach thanks to Tinker Hatfield.

This original design used a urethane bladder with pressurized gas inside, further reducing the weight for the cushioning. The Air Max 1 used a smaller bladder that was limited to under the midfoot area.

As the designs progressed, so did the use of the Air Max technology. Later, the Air Max 180 was released, which used the bladder under the entire heel, and then the Air Max 360 extended it to the entire midsole.

How well does the Nike Vapormax 360 fit?

The Nike Vapormax 360 was released in men’s sizes 6 to 15. This shoe does run small so plan to go up to about a half size when purchasing. See the manufacturer's site for details.
