LGA 1366/Socket B Placas Base de Ordenador Para Intel

Facts You Need to Know About Selecting an Intel LGA 1366 Motherboard

If you are building a performance desktop computer for office or home use or need to replace a motherboard in your existing system, then LGA 1366 may be an option. These Intel mainboards are based on the X58 chipset and offer many potential features, including USB 3.0, 6GB/s RAID support, and readiness for 6-core processors. These boards are also available in a range of form factors, including ATX, MicroATX, and Extended ATX.

What is LGA 1366?

LGA 1366, which is sometimes stylized as LGA1366 or referred to as Socket B, is a CPU socket or slot designed by Intel for processors intended for desktop computers. This part is named so because it features 1,366 pins that make a connection between the mainboard and CPU. These pins are the LGA or land grid array. This board features the Intel X58 chipset, which uses the QuickPath Interconnect or QPI that replaced the traditional front-side bus or FSB, and it supports three specific processor series. These are the:

  • Intel Core i7 9xx
  • Intel Celeron P1053
  • Intel Xeon 35xx, 36xx, 55xx, and 56xx
How do you pair an LGA 1366 motherboard and CPU?

One simple option is to purchase a CPU-motherboard that is pre-paired. If you are replacing a mainboard or choosing the board and processor independently, then you should start with the CPU choice. From there, you can select a motherboard that supports your processor, system memory target, and various features. Note that just because a board is LGA 1366 does not mean that it supports all processors that use this LGA. A board will generally support either the i7 or the Xeon, but not both.

Which memory modules do these boards require?

These Intel motherboards require DDR3 SDRAM. The X58 supports up to three channels, and your exact number of channels will depend on the manufacturer, model, and intent. Generally, each provided channel can support up to two DIMM modules, and per the DDR3 standard, each module can be as large as 16GB. Therefore, if your board fully supports all three channels and has six memory slots, then your overall system memory can be as much as 96GB. This is a theoretical maximum, and many boards have a limitation of 24GB. Also, be mindful that support for latencies, speeds, and voltages will vary from one motherboard manufacturer and model to the next, therefore, ensure that the specific SDRAM you choose is on the approved memory list for your board.

Is the CPU fan socket-specific?

If you purchase a retail edition of your processor, then it will include an appropriate fan. If you need to purchase a fan separately, then you need to purchase one specifically designed for LGA 1366. This standard includes precise positioning for mounting holes that all LGA 1366 motherboards support.
