Grilles for Mazda 6

Mazda6 Grilles

A grille is an integral part of a Mazda6 hatchback or sedan. Changing your grille is an opportunity to customize the look of your car. You can shop grille models based on design and color.

What is the purpose of the grille?

The elements that power your Mazda6 need airflow to keep them cool, an opening in the front of the car allows air to reach the engine and radiator as you drive. This air prevents the internal mechanisms from overheating and helps the car run efficiently. The grille is the cover that is placed over this opening. It helps keep debris out of the inner workings of your Mazda. A grille that is not in good shape should be replaced to ensure foreign objects stay out.

What grille styles are available?

Purchasing a new grille allows you to customize the look of your Mazda wagon or sedan. You can maintain an appearance similar to the vehicles standard look or you can choose a style that gives your Mazda Mazda6 an entirely different look.

  • Horizontal Bars - This style features stripes that run across the length of the grille. It is sometimes called bar billet.
  • Vertical Bars - The stripes on these Mazda grilles run up and down. This style is also called vertical billet.
  • Mesh - This grille style features a crisscrossing pattern across the entire face of the grille. Its name sometimes gives a further indication of its pattern, such as "honeycomb mesh" or "diamond mesh".
What color grilles are available?

The main colors used for grilles are chrome, black, or paint color. The look you desire for your car can help you determine which color to choose.

  • Chrome - Shiny chrome finishes stand out making this is a good option for drivers who want an eye-catching Mazda grille.
  • Black - A black grille helps your Mazda Mazda6 look sporty. You can have a matte black grille or a shiny black one.
  • Paint Color - Some grilles come primed and ready for paint allowing you to customize them. They can be painted to match the exterior color of your vehicle, which helps them blend in and create a unified look. Alternatively, you could paint your grille a complementary color to give your car a two-tone look.
How do you install a new grille?

Some replacement grille models are exterior covers that fit over your current model grille assembly. If you prefer to replace the entire unit, you will need a rubber mallet and a flathead screwdriver for the job.

  • Use the screwdriver to pry up the plastic rivets that hold your current assembly in place. Save these rivets for installing the new grille.
  • Pull the grille toward you so you can access its locking tabs. Unhook them with the screwdriver.
  • Lift up to pull the grille off of the car.
  • Using the locking clips, set the new grille in place.
  • Return the plastic rivets to their spots at the top of the grille. Pound them lightly with the mallet.
