GM Car and Truck Interior Lights
The interior lights in your GM vehicle are a crucial way to see the inside of your vehicle at night. If one of the internal lights on your car goes down, then it is in your best interest to find a replacement quickly. You have an assortment of lights to choose from for your GM. An LED dome light and an LED door light work differently and have different strengths. Make sure you get the type of light you need. Different manufacturers can have lights that are brighter or dimmer, have more blue or yellow light, and so on. Some have red accents, panels, adjustable dimmer switches, and other features. What do OEM lights mean?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. An OEM light is often made by a specialist company that creates the lights for GM. If you buy an OEM light for your car, then you know you are getting the model that originally shipped with the car. This is good for standardization and ease of use. Aftermarket or refurbished models sometimes have different shapes and colors that you may prefer over the OEM model. What does it mean if the lights are refurbished?
Refurbished means used and repaired. A light that has gone through a proper refurbishment process will be fully functional. It should come with everything you need to make it work. Make sure that you order one that fits your specific GM car or truck. When should you replace your truck’s interior lighting?
The less functional the light is, the more urgent the need to replace it becomes. A simple broken bulb wont take long to fix and usually there are multiple bulbs in each light. A problem with the circuits might cause the entire light to stop working. Damage to the cover will expose the bulbs to damage, but is otherwise cosmetic. If your lights do not turn on, you should replace them as soon as possible as it is dangerous to move around in a dark car without them. How do you install a dome light on a GM?
The process varies depending on what type of GM car or truck you are working with. What follows is a basic overview of how to replace LED dome lights.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the lights lens cover and set it aside.
- Gently pull back one of the bulbs metal contacts and remove the bulb from its socket.
- Carefully insert the new bulb, re-insert the lens cover, and snap into place.
Also take the time to test out the new bulb to ensure it works. If it doesnt, try removing it and flipping it around inside the socket, especially if its an LED light.
