Motorcycle Fuel Petcocks and Taps for Kawasaki Z1

Fuel petcocks and taps are essential to a properly running motorcycle. With a wide selection of motorcycle fuel petcocks and taps, you can find the right part for your Kawasaki Z1.

What function does the petcock in your motorcycle have?

The valve manages the flow of gas from your Z1s reserve tank to the main gas tank, which is located underneath your Z1s main tank. It acts as a backup if you run out of gas in your Z1s main tank.

How does the fuel petcock work on your Kawasaki Z1?

The valve shuts off the main tank from the reserve tank in your Z1. There are three main settings on the switch that allow for different functions on your bike.

  • Set your Z1 to the "On" position during normal riding.
  • Set your Z1 to the "Reserve" setting when your motorcycle depletes the gas supply in the main tank and you need access to the excess supply underneath. This tank usually only holds a gallon of fuel, so make sure to only rely on the back-up gas supply to get to the nearest gas station.
  • Set your Z1 to the "Off" position when storing your bike over a long period of time.
How is the petcock on your Kawasaki Z1 replaced?

You will need the following: a gas can, rags, a new petcock, an aluminum funnel, and a wrench of appropriate size.

  1. Drain the gas from the both parts of your gas tank into your gas can. Make sure your Kawasakis petcock is set to the closed position when emptying the main tank. When the main tank is empty, open the petcock and drain the tank underneath as well. Close the valve when you are done.
  2. Take off the old petcock using the wrench. The rag will help to protect your hands from any gas that did not get drained.
  3. Fasten the new petcock to your Kawasaki motorcycle by carefully sliding the filter and pipe into the tank very gently. Make sure that you fasten it tightly with the wrench to ensure the fuel remains in your motorcycle tank.
  4. Reattach your Kawasakis fuel lines.
  5. Refill your Kawasaki motorcycles tank and check that there arent any issues with any of the parts reassembled.
What does a fuel filter petcock in your Kawasaki do?

Your Kawasaki can get clogged with debris or buildup in the gas lines. This will affect your carburetor. So, fuel filter petcocks come with a four- to five-inch screen to prevent debris from reaching your Kawasakis carburetor.
