The supports hold sturdy cross bars, which you can use as a base for rooftop carriers and attachments.

• Choose your vehicle year: Most Mazda roof racks are designed for a specific year, so it’s important to check compatibility.
• Check trim compatibility: Verify that your chosen device is compatible with your Mazda trim style, such as the Touring, Grand Touring, or Sport.

Although the installation process may vary depending on the rack manufacturer and your Mazda model, the basic steps are usually the same.

• Find the side strips: These plastic strips are located on each side of your roof and just above the top of the door frame.
• Remove plastic caps: Most CX-9 models have three caps on each side; slip them off to reveal the rack bolt holes.
• Install rail supports: Use the bolts that came with your rack to attach three rail supports on the left and right sides of the car. Most bolts can be attached with a screwdriver.
• Attach the rails: Attach the side rails to the supports with bolts and a screwdriver.
• Fasten cross bars: If you are using cross bars, fasten them to the side rails with the included hardware.
