The letters CAROL·III·D·G·HISP·ETIND·R surrounds him. The reverse of this coin shows a royal crest surrounded by the letters IN·UTROQ·FELIX·A·D·1 SPTS··PR. You can also find a similar escudo minted in 1791, showing the bust of Carlos IV. Another early Bolivian gold coins show the busts of Fernando VII created from 1822 to 1824.
