ATV Air Filters and Parts for Kawasaki Bayou 250

Find the right ATV air filters and parts for your Kawasaki Bayou 250. With the right accessories and supplies, you can help your Kawasaki reach its performance potential.

When should you clean or replace the air filter?

A dirty air filter on your Kawasaki Bayou 250 can cause several problems. It robs you of horsepower and increases the amount of wear and tear on your vehicle. This means that dirt and debris can get sucked into your motors internals and cause issues in the fuel intake system. Since dirt and mud are just a part of riding, its important that you clean out your air filter on a regular schedule. In extremely dusty environments, however, clean out your air filter after each ride or consider purchasing some extra air filters to swap out daily. Performing the following air filter maintenance should keep your Kawasaki running efficiently:

  • After 500 miles or 25 hours of operation in a normal environment, clean or replace the air filter if needed.
  • After 1,000 miles or 50 hours of operation in a normal environment, replace the air filter.
What types of air filters Kawasaki ATVs are available?
  • Paper filters: These filters provide good airflow and consistent horsepower. However, because they provide good airflow, they also let more dirt and debris through, which means it requires frequent replacing.
  • Fabric filters: Fabric filters come in a similar multilayered design as the paper filters. The difference is the fabric used in these filters consists of fibers coated with a sticky substance that attracts and holds onto dirt molecules. However, with this type of filter, the more dirt thats filtered means more frequent cleaning for good airflow through your engine.
  • Foam filters: These filters work by providing a million small "cells" to trap floating dirt and debris. Most of the time, foam filters are layered with bigger cells on the outside and smaller cells on the inside, so any dirt that gets through the first layer will be stopped. Foam filters also have an oil applied to the outside to keep the dirt in the foam.
How do you clean the air filter?

Cleaning your air filter takes about 30 minutes. However, you must allow 24 hours for it to dry. The filter is located under the seat of the ATV. Before cleaning, be sure to choose a cleaning solution appropriate for cleaning the filter. Sometimes different cleansers need to be used on different types of filters, so make sure you have the right one.

Using gloves to protect your hands from possible toxins, wash the filter in a bucket of water mixed with the appropriate cleaning solution. Do not use excessive force with the filter, rather let the soap do its job by just squeezing the solution out of the filter gently with your hands. These filters need to air dry. Also, do not use a compressor or any other type of drying method. Because they take 24 hours to dry, make sure you do this well in advance any planned riding.
